The expensive shops in a famous arcade near Piccadilly were just opening. At this time of the morning, the arcade was almost empty.
皮卡迪利大街附近的一条著名拱廊街道上，几家高档商店刚刚开始营业。在早晨的这个时候，拱廊街上几乎空无一人。
（1）句型分析和仿写
先将第一句话进行分解，看一个长难句是如何形成的。
The expensive shops / in a famous arcade / near Piccadilly / were just opening.
该句子原本为The shops were just opening.
随后添加形容词expensive修饰shops，再而添加介词短语等，将句子补充的越来越完善，也越来越长。

仿写：
①那个学生正在读英语。
The student is reading English.
②那个留学生正在读英语。
The foreign student is reading English.
③那个留学生正在图书馆读书。
The foreign student in the library is reading English.

丽娃河是我们华东师范大学的校河。
如果我们在考试作文中，想要表达一个简单句，就可以通过以上4个步骤，一步一步添加修饰成分，句子也不会写错，句子也写的足够长，字数就容易达到要求的标准。当然修饰成分最好与主题有关，不是要你所有的名字都添加修饰哦。
（2）empty表示“空”，以及其他表示“空”的单词
empty: 指空无一人或一物，或空洞无意义的。
同样可以表达这个意思的单词有：
vacant: 普通用词，侧重某物或某个位置没有被占用。
hollow: 指物体中间是空的。
blank: 指上面没有写字、印刷或做记号的空白表面，或指上面留着准备被填写的空白处。
open: 指未被占有，从而可被别人得到的。
知道这些词的含义，就不要用错啦。
比如 empty bottle就是空瓶子，而vacant bottle虽然也指空瓶子，但侧重指没有被占用的空瓶子。
