虽然英语的一些介词和介词短语没有“不”的标志，但它们具有否定意义，可以用在否定句中替代no、not和none等词。
1.我们常见到的介词有：above（超乎……之所及，不受……的影响）、beyond（不可及）、except（除了）、over（超越）、past（超越，无法）和without（没有）。比如：
1）Finding a job in such a big company has always been____ his wildest dreams.

原句的意思是：能在这么大的公司找到一份工作一直是他不敢想象的事。这里我们可以选D)beyond来表示“不敢想象”。

2.英语的一些介词短语，比如：except for（除了）、at loss（迷惑）、instead of（而不）、out of（超出之外，没有）、in vain（徒劳地）、with the exception of（除以外）和other than（除了，而不是）等都可以表达否定意义。比如：

我们选B) in vain（徒劳，无效）。
